Hawes Building Solutions completed this renovation for Dean Nicholson in February 2015.
Nicholson Autos had to continue operating for its loyal clients so temporary offices were established within the car yard. Stage one involved completely stripping out the existing building and removing a good percentage of the internal walls, including all interior linings shop fronts, glazing and the front canopy. Stage two involved a complete refurbishment of the workshop, the tyre sales bay and car grooming bay.
Working with an old building posed some challenges. What was drawn on the new plans did not correspond with what was actually exposed following demolition. Hawes Building Solutions worked closely with the engineers and architects to come up with solutions that were cost effective and practical with minimal delays to the programme. The project was very much a design and build.
The newly finished building comprised a large modern showroom and reception with open plan offices. It was a fully reclad building with a large opening aluminium glazed shop front. Other additions included a new customer lounge; toilet facilities and smoko rooms; resurfacing of the workshop floors; tiling of the show room floors and a complete reline and repaint throughout. Careful consideration and coordination were required for relocation of existing services and for the construction of oil bunds and associated tanks and pipe work. All of this was done with minimum disturbance to the day to day running of Nicholson Autos.
The client was extremely happy with the finished project and, although there was a lot of additional work outside of the original scope and quoted works, the job was handed over as per the agreed programme.
